Getting Started
How do I connect to ShieldWave?
Open the app, pick a region from the Servers tab, then go to the Home tab and swipe the "Slide to Connect" toggle. The toggle turns blue and shows your live speed when the tunnel is up. Tap it again to disconnect.
What regions can I connect to?
Free plan: 4 ready regions — United States 🇺🇸, Japan 🇯🇵, Singapore 🇸🇬, and United Kingdom 🇬🇧. Each has dozens of verified entry nodes for redundancy.
Pro plan: All 76 countries / 97 edge cities. Drill into any country and pick a specific city, or let ShieldWave auto-select the best one by latency.
What's the difference between Smart and Global mode?
Smart Mode intelligently routes traffic — domestic sites stay direct while international traffic goes through the tunnel. This is the fastest option for everyday use.
Global Mode tunnels everything through the VPN, regardless of destination. Use it on hostile networks (airport Wi-Fi, hotel Wi-Fi) or when you need maximum privacy.
How do I choose the best server?
The app pings every server in your selected region and shows real-time latency next to each one. Aim for green (≤100 ms) for the best experience. Yellow (≤200 ms) is fine for browsing. Red (>200 ms) may feel slow on streaming.
Pull down on the server list to re-test latency at any time.
Quota & Throttling (Free Plan)
How does the 15 GB monthly quota work?
Every free account starts each month with 15 GB of full-speed VPN data. The quota resets on the 1st of every month in your local timezone — not UTC.
Your remaining quota is always visible on the Home tab and in the Profile screen. Once exhausted, the tunnel stays connected at a 5 Mbps cap — you can keep browsing, chatting, and streaming SD video. We don't disconnect you.
What can I do at 5 Mbps?
5 Mbps is enough for: web browsing, social apps, messaging, music streaming, video calls (Zoom/FaceTime/WhatsApp), and standard-definition video (480p YouTube, Netflix on phone). It's slower for HD/4K streaming and large downloads.
If you regularly hit the cap, the Pro plan is $2.99/month for unlimited full speed.
How do reward videos work?
From the Home tab, tap Watch Ad for +1 GB. A short video plays (15–30 seconds). When it finishes, 1 GB is credited to your monthly quota — even if you're currently throttled. You can do this up to 5 times per day, so up to +5 GB/day on top of the base 15 GB/month.
When does my quota reset?
At midnight on the 1st of every month in your local timezone. The reset is automatic — there's nothing to do.
Connection Issues
I can't connect to any server
Try these steps in order:
- Refresh the server list: Pull down on the Servers tab to re-test latency and fetch the latest IP pool.
- Try a different region: Some entry nodes get rotated out for maintenance. Pick another region with a green latency badge.
- Check the base internet: Open a website with the VPN off. If that fails too, the problem is your local network.
- Restart the app: Force-close ShieldWave and reopen.
- Check VPN permission: Android: Settings → Apps → ShieldWave → Permissions. iOS: Settings → VPN → ShieldWave (the profile should be installed).
- Reinstall: Last resort. Reinstalling won't lose your account.
My connection is slow
A few things to check:
- Are you over your monthly quota? Check the Profile tab — if you're throttled, the cap is 5 Mbps.
- Pick a region with the lowest latency (green badge).
- Use Smart Mode for everyday browsing — it's faster than Global.
- Pro users: try a different city within the same country (the app shows per-city latency).
- Check your base internet — VPN can't be faster than your underlying connection.
The VPN disconnects frequently
Android: Many vendors aggressively kill background apps. Go to Settings → Battery → ShieldWave and select Don't optimize or Unrestricted. On Xiaomi/Huawei/OPPO, also enable Autostart.
iOS: The OS keeps VPN profiles alive automatically. If it still drops, switch to a different region — your current entry IP may be congested. If problems persist on Wi-Fi, try over cellular to isolate the network.
Account & Subscription
How do I upgrade to Pro?
Open the Profile tab and tap Upgrade to Pro. Choose Monthly ($2.99/mo) or Annual ($24.99/year — about $2.08/mo, saves 30%). Billing is handled entirely by the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android); ShieldWave never sees your card details.
What do I get with Pro?
- Access to all 76 countries / 97 edge cities — 17,000+ verified entry nodes
- Per-city node selection (free users get country-level only on the 4 free regions)
- Unlimited data — no monthly quota, no throttling
- No ads anywhere in the app
- Up to 6 devices on one account
- Priority email support
How do I cancel my subscription?
iOS: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → ShieldWave → Cancel.
Android: Google Play → Profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → ShieldWave → Cancel.
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep Pro access until then.
How do I restore a previous purchase?
Open the Profile tab, tap Restore Purchase. The app talks to the App Store / Google Play and re-activates Pro on your account. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID / Google account that made the original purchase.
How many devices can I use?
Free: 1 device. Signing in on a new device automatically signs you out of the old one.
Pro: Up to 6 devices simultaneously, mix of iOS and Android.
How do I delete my account?
Two ways, same result:
- From the app: Profile tab → Account Actions → Delete Account. Type DELETE to confirm.
- From the web: visit shieldwave.uk/delete-account and sign in with your email + password.
Both methods permanently remove your account, devices, and usage history. The data is deleted from our servers within 30 days. Cancel any active subscription in the App Store / Google Play first — deleting the account doesn't stop the renewal.
If you signed up with Sign in with Apple or Google and don't remember the password, email [email protected] from your account address.
Privacy & Security
Does ShieldWave log my browsing activity?
No. Zero-logging is enforced in code, not just policy. We do not store browsing history, DNS queries, destination IPs, connection timestamps, or any content of your traffic. VPN traffic is processed in worker memory and never written to disk. See our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. Every byte rides TLS 1.3 with the VLESS protocol — modern, audited, perfect-forward-secret. Same encryption tier used by banks and government services.
Can my ISP see what I'm doing?
Your ISP sees that you have an encrypted TLS connection to a Cloudflare IP — nothing more. They can't see which sites you visit, what you stream, or what you download.
